According to reports in South Africa, former Springbok number eight Duane Vermeulen is set to be appointed to a high-ranking position with SA Rugby. Initially, Vermeulen was linked with a role in the Western Province (WP) and Stormers set-up but turned down an offer from the Bulls last year. Vermeulen's new role will see him working alongside Rassie Erasmus at the Boks. As Erasmus has stepped down from his position as director of rugby to focus on his role as head coach, Vermeulen's appointment will make the director of rugby role redundant. Vermeulen's specific job description will be confirmed when SA Rugby announces the appointment of new coaches Jerry Flannery and Tony Brown. This full-time appointment will allow SA Rugby to use Vermeulen in other areas, including coaching other South African national teams.
