Fijian Drua is set to increase its number of home matches during the upcoming 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season, much to the delight of its passionate fans. The team will host a total of seven matches, welcoming renowned teams such as the Crusaders, Waratahs, Western Force, Hurricanes, Moana Pasifika, Reds, and Melbourne Rebels. This will be the third season for the Fijian side in the competition.
The majority of the matches, five out of seven, will be held at Lautoka's Churchill Park, with the remaining two taking place at the National Stadium in Suva. While it would have been ideal to host more matches in Suva, Drua's chief executive, Mark Evans, explains that this is not possible due to maintenance work on the athletics track.
Evans acknowledges the potential disappointment for fans in the Central Division but assures them that the club is working on solutions to make it easier for them to attend matches in Lautoka. Discussions with bus companies are underway to create travel and match ticket packages, allowing fans from Suva, Naitasiri, Tailevu, Lami, and Pacific Harbour to make a day trip to Lautoka and support their beloved team.
To accommodate the travel plans of the fans, three of the matches will kick off at 1pm, providing ample time for supporters to journey to Lautoka and witness their Drua compete against some of the world's most exciting players.
Evans expresses his excitement for the upcoming season, highlighting not only the increased number of home matches in Fiji but also the team's advantage of having players with Rugby World Cup experience after their outstanding performance in France.
